D’Tigress of Nigeria won the 2023 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Final 83-74 over Senegal. The highly anticipated match, staged at the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda, lived up to its promise as one of the most evenly matched Finals in the tournament’s history, with Nigeria prevailing.

Throughout the final game, both teams’ players, from seasoned to gifted, showed great abilities and drive. In the end, Nigeria won the trophy for the fourth time in a row, a remarkable achievement in the history of African women’s basketball.

D’Tigress, captained by captain Sarah Ogoke, demonstrated their unrelenting enthusiasm and prowess on the court during the heated contest. Ogoke, a seasoned player with a perfect record in the Women’s AfroBasket Finals, was vital to her team’s triumph.

Meanwhile, Senegal’s captain, Aya Traore, a six-time winner of the competition, tried desperately to motivate her squad. Senegal put up a valiant effort, but Nigeria’s unwavering performance proved too strong.

Nigeria has won the African continent’s women’s basketball championship for the sixth time. Their prior titles came in 2003, 2005, 2017, 2019, and 2021, making them one of the tournament’s most decorated teams.

The 2023 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Final was a replay of the 2017 and 2019 finals, both of which Nigeria won. Their supremacy continued in 2021, when they won another faultless semifinal against Senegal before crushing Mali in the final.

Nigeria created history by having the first female head coach guide her team to victory in the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket, Rena Wakama. This accomplishment illustrates the rising significance of female coaches in African basketball.

As the festivities continue, fans and basketball fanatics around the continent are pleased by both teams’ exciting displays of talent and togetherness. The FIBA Women’s AfroBasket 2023 competition will surely be regarded as a remarkable and historic event.
