PLASU declares two-day mourning period over attack on students by terrorists

Plateau State University (PLASU) has declared a two-day mourning period following the attacks on the Chikam Community close to the institution in which a 200-level Computer Science student, Dading James Jordan, lost his life.

The university administration also halted the ongoing semester exams.

This was stated in a press release issued by the registrar of PLASU, Yakubu Ayuba, in Jos.

The statement also expressed condolences to the vice chancellor, Professor Shadrach Best, and the whole management and staff of PLASU, the deceased’s family, and the students’ bodies for the irreparable loss.

Ayuba further complained that the attacks took place despite attempts by the Plateau State government, security agencies, the institution’s administration, and other stakeholders to improve security.

According to him, the wicked attack caused the two-day mourning period and the suspension of the ongoing investigation.

Yakubu also advised students to be calm and law-abiding and urged security services to increase protection surrounding the university to protect staff and students as the institution seeks further ways to improve security.

Meanwhile, Caleb Mutfwang, the state governor, has called for calm, stating that security services are striving to restore normalcy.

In a statement released by the director of press and public affairs, Gyang Bere,the governor characterised the attack as barbarous and assured citizens, particularly students, of the government’s steadfast commitment to protecting their lives and property.

He asked everyone to be calm in the wake of the tragedy, emphasising that the government is determined to apprehend and prosecute those guilty for the atrocious deeds.
