Two Lagos State University students (LASU) were injured by stray bullets outside the school grounds in a prominent student residence neighbourhood known as PPL on Monday night.
While the names of the students and the identities of the shooter(s) are unknown, it has been reported that the victims were shot while going to buy lunch around 8 p.m.
One X user, Baddy of Lasu, posted as #belikebaddy and claimed, “Two students were shot at PPL in Ojo, Lagos.” Please, LASU students, stay inside and do not go out.
In a tweet, Kappo Olawale, the Senior Special Adviser on Students’ Union Affairs to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, confirmed the occurrence.
Olawale, in a statement on X, said he had spoken with the university’s Student Union President, who confirmed that the victims are in stable condition.
“I have kept in touch with the President of the Student Union. The information passed just now is that the students have been stabilised. The Dean of Students was also on the ground to ensure they were properly attended to. Thanks to God!” he tweeted.
A university student, who spoke on condition of anonymity because she was not permitted to speak on the subject, informed our correspondent that the students went to get lunch before being hit by stray gunshots.
In a video seen by our correspondent, one of the victims, who appeared to be female, was seen laying on a bed with her blouse saturated in blood.
“It happened around 8 p.m. at PPL. They went to get food outside, so they heard gunshots, and they ran away. When they got home, they observed that the bullets had hit the male on the neck and arm.
“Due to the bleeding, he was rushed to the LASU Health Centre, from where he was rushed again to the Igando Medical Hospital. He’s already responding to treatment,” the source said.
According to the source, the school’s dean of pupil affairs was with the pupils in the hospital.
When contacted late Monday, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, did not react to our correspondent’s text message sent to his mobile number at the time of filing this report
