Kabusa, Demolition

Residents of the Kabusa neighbourhood of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have complained about the demolition of their structures and household possessions by workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA’s Department of Development Control).

They complained that the demolition on Friday last week was carried out in their customary commando way, with no respect for due process and reckless contempt for the rules of engagement, all in the name of returning land to an allottee.

The aggrieved people of Kabusa told reporters yesterday in Abuja that the Department of Development Control destroyed the assets of innocent civilians who are now regarded as second-class citizens by their own government.

According to the spokesman of the affected residents, Mr Solomon Ajayi, “These agents of government in collaboration with the supposed allottee sinisterly executed the wanton destruction of the area without dialogue with the occupants and adequate notification except the marking of houses that was effected on 12th of April 2023.”

He said less than a month after the marking, they came back with bulldozers without any form of warning or notification to execute their evil plot.

He said the department to cover-up their evil and shove aside the moral burden of their calamitous action, went to the press to claim that they had dialogue with the affected residents.

According to Leadership accounts, another resident, Miss Glory Frank, was unhappy that they had damaged their properties and forced them homeless.
