The Family Chat with Mrs Chika, a mother of four as well as a grand mother, from Amawbia town was emotional for the VP.

Mrs Chika had previously lost her son, who was the bread winner of the family in December 2016. Her husband who was also helping had had an accident and broke his leg and has not been working for over a year, leaving the woman to carter for the whole family alone with her little trade of Soya Milk and Zobo drink.

Home grown School Feeding Program came to her rescue in January 2017 and since then, things have really changed for the family. They can comfortably afford three square meals, take care of the family’s basic needs and she is now operating a small food vendor business amongst other things.

After the meeting the Chika family, the Vice President explained the rationale behind the free interest loans and the impact it has on Nigeria.

“Providing credit to small business owners is one of the focus of our Social Iinvestment Programmes,” the VP said on Twitter.

“TraderMoni is a distinct loan product that seeks to boost the informal sector by enumerating and empowering traders with loans.

“We are in Eke-Awka market, Anambra State to monitor the progress,” he said on Friday. The Vice President is expected to return to Abuja, Nigeria’s capital after the one-day working visit.
