The Lagos State Government has stated that the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line will raise the number of daily trips from 54 to 72 beginning Monday, August 12, 2024.
The state government also announced a 25% discount on fares for commuters who travel between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily.
“However, the current schedule for Sunday operations remained unchanged,” a statement from the state Ministry of Information and Strategy made available to our correspondent on Saturday read.
According to the statement, Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, revealed that Blue Line train commuters will now be able to travel between Marina and Mile 2 in around 18 minutes, down from 25 minutes previously.
According to her, the implication is that a train would run every 18 minutes both ways, allowing passengers to plan their routes.
“Apart from this, Akinajo also announced a 25 percent discount fare for commuters travelling within the off-peak period set at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily.
“The new train schedule is potentially expected to reduce journey times, encourage more riders to use the train system during off-peak periods, and reduce transport spending. The new timetables are available on the LAMATA website, stations, and social media handles,” the statement noted.
Recall that the Blue Rail Line began passenger service on September 4, 2023, and has transported nearly two million people.
