Goodluck Jonathan, a former president, led a group of observers from Abuja to Nairobi on Friday in preparation for the August 9 general elections in Kenya. Jonathan would lead the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa’s electoral observation mission (EISA). A complete short-term team of observers has been sent by EISA to Kenya. The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has raised alarm about the profiling and killing of northerners in various regions of southern Nigeria, particularly the South East. A former Inspector-General of Police, Mustapha Balogun, died at a hospital in Lekki, Lagos at about 8:30 pm on Thursday during a brief illness, according to family sources. Born August 25, 1947, in Ila Orangun, Osun State, he was appointed the IGP in March 2002. Balogun died at 74, some days to his 75th birthday. Soldiers from the Ojo Military Cantonment killed a police officer named Inspector Monday Orube in Lagos on Wednesday over rights to way.
