Unknown gunmen kill Labour Party House Of Reps candidate in Imo

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) announced on Thursday the names of terrorist and bandits kingpins slain in various operations across the country's north.

Hon. Christopher Eleghu, a candidate for the Labour Party’s State House of Assembly in Imo state’s Onuimo LGA, was shot and killed by unidentified gunmen yesterday.

Hon. Eleghu, aka WASCO, was shot and killed late on Thursday night in his Imo state home. According to a source, he was killed on his way home after a campaign rally at Umuowa community in Ngor Okpala.

This tragic occurrence coincides with a recent uptick in attacks by those thought to be affiliated with IPOB and the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

Recall that in an earlier report the Labour party House of Assembly, Chukwunonye Irouno died on Monday night in mysterious circumstances after he and other LP chieftains had finished inspecting Kanu Nwankwo Sports Stadium in Owerri, the venue of their presidential candidate Peter Obi’s campaign rally in the state capital on Tuesday.

It was gathered that the assailants trailed the LP candidate in an unmarked vehicle from the venue of the rally, shot him at a junction and abandoned his corpse.

Some of his supporters who were in the same car with him sustained injuries from the attack and are currently receiving treatment in a hospital.

In the same vain, another indigene of Ngor Okpala Local Government Area, Bennett Nnaji popularly known as “Coach” who hails from Umuekwune Umuorisha in Umuohiagu Autonomous Community was also murdered by unidentified gunmen.

Nnaji, 54, was killed at Umuowa, a few meters away from the Airport Junction, along Aba road while returning home from his maternal home, Ndiama Ulakwo in Owerri North Local Government Area.

The father of three, who resides in Abuja, was in the village for the elections, ChronicleNG gathered.

Reacting to the incident, the governorship candidate of Labour party in Imo State, Barrister Ngozi Olehi, said that he received news of the death of the candidate with shock.
