A gas plant has exploded near the international headquarters of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

According to information obtained by correspondents, the explosion caused panic among locals in the Mowe neighbourhood. Although not owned by RCCG, the gas plant was near to the Redemption Camp.

In a conversation with reporters on Monday afternoon, the LASEMA spokeswoman, Nosa Okunbor, verified the explosion.

“The gas explosion occurred right in front of Redeemed’s front entrance. Interestingly, the item is only by it and not held by Redeemed, according to Okunbor. It is near a gas station in a densely populated neighbourhood.

According to LASEMA, the fire initially erupted from one of the cylinders before spreading to the two other stationed trucks. The trucks and the damaged cylinders, according to the statement, were dampened to reduce the possibility of a secondary incident. The absence of any recorded casualties or injuries was also highlighted by LASEMA.

The Federal Fire Service as well as the Lagos State Fire Service are among the first responders on the scene.

Additionally, the explosion site was identified as Sun Contractor Project Services Limited in a statement made by the director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Adeseye Margaret.

“The fire which was reported at 11:22 hours, Monday, was subdued from causing a secondary incident by the Alausa and Ilupeju fire crews, leaving four stationed gas trucks severely burnt,” the statement partly read.

“There was neither a case of injury nor death as damping down of the fire has been concluded. The cause of the fire is unknown at the time of this report as a preliminary investigation is ongoing and will be made public.”
