President Bola Tinubu returned to Abuja on Tuesday evening, cutting short a 10-day trip to Paris and London.
The President’s Airbus A330 landed at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at 06:50pm local time.
Tinubu, who left Nigeria on September 4, was anticipated to remain in Europe until later this week.
There was no official justification offered for the decision to cancel the trip.
Bayo Onanuga, the special adviser to the president on information and strategy, confirmed the president’s return in a statement on Monday.
Onanuga’s statement partly reads, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has concluded his work vacation ahead of schedule and will return to Abuja on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, to resume official duties.”
He added that “last week in Paris, President Tinubu held a private luncheon with his French counterpart, President Emmanuel Macron, at the Elysee Palace. Both leaders reviewed key areas of cooperation between Nigeria and France and agreed to deepen the partnership for mutual prosperity and global stability.”
The Nigerian leader had departed Nigeria for France on September 4, 2025, to spend part of his annual holiday.
The president was initially scheduled to split the period between France and the United Kingdom.
While in France, Tinubu and Macron reviewed key areas of bilateral cooperation and decided to enhance collaborations in the interests of mutual prosperity and global stability.
This is Tinubu’s sixth journey to Paris since taking office in May 2023 and his first since the July BRICS summit and the August TICAD9 in Japan.
