TCN restores power to northern Nigeria

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a partial restoration of power to seven states in the northern region of the country affected by the vandalisation of the Shiroro-Kaduna transmission line.

The states are Lafia, Makurdi, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Bauchi, and Gombe.

Electricity was restored to the region at 4:56 p.m. following the repair of the 330 kV Ugwuaji-Apir transmission line 1.

On Wednesday, the TCN made the news in a statement signed by Ndidi Mbah, its General Manager of Public Affairs.

This comes after a nine-day blackout in the entire region. On October 22, TCN reported a power outage in the North-East, North-West, and sections of North-Central when the 330 kV Ugwaji-Apir double circuit transmission lines 1 and 2 tripped at 4:53 a.m. “due to a fault.”.

Two days later, the transmission firm announced that its linemen had located the source of the power loss.

However, the security issues faced by TCN engineers while repairing the broken lines prompted President Bola Tinubu to direct full security support.

In a new update, the business stated that this issue has been partially rectified.

The statement read in part, “The Transmission Company of Nigeria has successfully restored bulk power supply through its 330kV Ugwuaji-Apir transmission line 1 as of 4:56 pm today, following the completion of repairs on the vandalised section of the line.

“With the restoration of this line, the Apir-Lafia 330kV transmission line 2 is now operational; also, bulk power transmission has been restored to Lafia, Makurdi, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Bauchi, and Gombe States.”
