Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed his likely retirement plan after reaching another milestone in Portugal’s victory on Friday.
Portugal won convincingly 5-1 over Poland in the UEFA Nations League, with Ronaldo scoring twice, including a magnificent bicycle kick.
The win secured Portugal’s place in the quarterfinals and marked the former Real Madrid player’s 132nd international win, surpassing former Real Madrid teammate Sergio Ramos, who achieved 131 wins with Spain.
After the game, the 39-year-old reflected on his future in football, emphasising his passion for the game despite the inevitable approach of retirement.
“I just want to enjoy [myself],” he told reporters. “Plan for retirement? If it has to happen, in one or two years… I don’t know. I’m turning 40 soon.
“I really want to enjoy; as long as I feel motivated, I keep going. The day I don’t feel motivated, I will retire.”
Speaking about his post-retirement plans, he made it clear he doesn’t see himself stepping into a coaching role.
