Favour Ofili finished sixth in the women’s 200 meters final at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The 21-year-old Nigerian athlete recorded a time of 22.24 seconds, trailing the leading pack in the final held on Tuesday at the Stade de France.

Gabrielle Thomas of the United States clinched the gold medal with a time of 21.83 seconds. Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia secured the silver medal with 22.08 seconds, while Brittany Brown, also from the US, took bronze.

Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith and Daryll Neita finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Ofili had advanced to the final with the third-best time in the semi-finals but struggled to keep pace with her fellow finalists.

This race marked the first time a Nigerian competed in the women’s 200 meters final at the Olympics since Mary Onyali in Atlanta 1996.

Despite a strong start, Ofili faded in the final 100 meters. She will now turn her attention to the women’s 4×100 relay, set to begin on Thursday.
