Crystal Palace have signed England keeper Dean Henderson from Manchester United on a five-year contract.

Palace paid an undisclosed amount for the 26-year-old, who came on as a substitute against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

He was on loan at Forest last season, but they signed Arsenal’s Matt Turner earlier this month.

“There’s something being built here, and I really want to be a part of it,” Henderson explained.

After Colombia midfielder Jefferson Lerma and Brazilian attacker Matheus Franca, Henderson is Palace’s third senior acquisition of the summer.

“This club has a lot of top players who are hungry to succeed and a lot of great fans,” he continued.

“I’m overjoyed and ecstatic to be here. I’m excited to get started.”

Henderson has been with United since he was 14 years old but has never established himself as the team’s first-choice keeper, loaning out to Stockport, Grimsby, Shrewsbury, and Sheffield United, in addition to Forest.

Sam Johnstone, another former Manchester United keeper, has started the season in goal for Palace, and the 30-year-old was added to the newest England team on Thursday.

“Dean is a fantastic addition to our squad and goalkeeping unit,” Palace owner Steve Parish said. “We’ve been fans for a long time.”

Manchester United recruited Andre Onana as their first-choice keeper this summer, replacing David de Gea, and are expected to sign Fenerbahce’s Altay Bayindir for £4.3 million to replace Henderson as their backup option.
