Nigeria remains 47th on the FIFA rankings

Nigeria remains 47th on the latest Coca Cola FIFA world ranking, and sixth in Africa ahead of the World Cup in Russia next month.

The rankings released on FIFA website on Thursday recorded few changes as the first 47 countries retained their previous positions.

According to the rankings on the website, seven international ‘A’ matches, all friendlies, took place in the month and as a result there are few movers in the latest ranking.

Germany, Brazil and Belgium were on the top three positions, while Super Eagles world cup foes Argentina, Croatia and Iceland were on fifth, 18th and 22nd positions.

Tunisia is 14th on the table, followed by Senegal on 28th and Congo DR the 38th.

Outside the top 50, a couple of nations have made notable advances. Kuwait (160, up 16) leap up the table thanks in part to their 2-0 friendly victory over Palestine.

Just three more sides – Grenada (163, plus eight), Benin (84, up six) and Botswana (142, up six) – moved up more than five ranking spots in the past month.

The Philippines (111, up 2) attained their best ever position in the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking, due to the Azkals’ positive results in recent months – which included qualifying for their maiden AFC Asian Cup.

The next rankings would be released on June 7.
