Sikiru Olatunbosun won Match 18 VAT Wonder Goal award

Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) leading scorer Lokosa is one of three players whose goals have been shortlisted for the NPFL Match Day 19 VAT Wonder Goal Award.

Lokosa scored a brace in Kano Pillars defeat of troubled Heartland FC of Owerri as the season reached the halfway mark on Sunday, April 29.

Other nominees include Rangers International’s Kelvin Itoya and Malachy Ohawume of Rivers United.

The first of Lokosa’s goals shortlisted by the panelists was a practice session model. It was initiated by a short dribble run from the left flank as the winger located his team mate at the center of the 18 yard edge, got a return pass before squaring a short pass to Lokosa who tapped in with the goalkeeper displaced by the passes that swung from left to center and back.

In the match against Wikki Tourists at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Itoya executed another practice session masterpiece.

He scored from a free kick right at the edge of the 18 yard, evading the defensive wall to place the ball firmly at the far right side of the goalkeeper, leaving the keeper rooted to a spot.

Ohawume is aiming to join his team mates, Emeka Ogbugh and Sochima Elum in the VAT Wonder Goal honours list and his effort in Umuahia against Abia Warriors has earned him a nomination.

READ: Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny out for six months

Sandwiched between two defenders, Ohawume fended off their strong challenge to lob the ball over the goalkeeper.

Video clips of the three goals have been uploaded on the NPFL website, www.npfl.ng and twitter handle, @lmcnpfl for voting which opens on Tuesday, May 8 and ends at midnight of Thursday, May 10.

Emeka Ogbugh of Rivers United, Sikiru Alimi of Sunshine Stars, Sochima Elum and MFM’s Sikiru Olatunbosun are the four previous winners of the N150,000 prize money so far this season.

The VAT Wonder Goal Award is an initiative of the League Management Company (LMC) supported by the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) to deepen club and community engagement through support for charity and also providing a platform for the promoting the benefits of tax payment through the FIRS tax education campaign.
