Liverpool tightened their grip on the Premier League title race with a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United, extending their lead at the top to 13 points.
Arne Slot’s side continued their impressive scoring streak at Anfield, netting at least twice in their last 18 home matches.
The match began with a setback for Newcastle, as key striker Alexander Isak was ruled out with a groin injury.
Liverpool wasted no time taking advantage, with Dominik Szoboszlai breaking the deadlock in the 11th minute. Luis Díaz provided the assist, allowing the Hungarian to slot home Liverpool’s 100th goal of the season across all competitions.
Newcastle had a rare opportunity when Dan Burn sent a long ball to Callum Wilson, who found himself one-on-one with Alisson but fired wide. Szoboszlai nearly doubled the lead before halftime, narrowly missing the target after a setup from Diogo Jota.
Liverpool controlled much of the game and secured their second goal in the 63rd minute. Alexis Mac Allister won the ball in midfield, linked up with Mohamed Salah, and finished clinically past Nick Pope. Salah later delivered a sublime cross for Díaz, who narrowly missed converting.
Despite missing their head coach on the touchline due to a suspension, the Premier League leaders comfortably saw out the win.
Newcastle, meanwhile, struggled to threaten in Isak’s absence and have now lost four of their last six league games.
With this victory, Liverpool further strengthened their position at the top of the table, edging closer to what looks like an inevitable title triumph.
