Manchester United legend Gary Neville has advised England defender Harry Maguire to seek the help of a psychologist.
Neville stated this after Maguire had another dreadful performance for England against Scotland earlier this week.
The Englishman who came off the bench at halftime in England’s friendly 3-1 win against Scotland was a main talking point after the game as he scored an unfortunate own goal.
At club level, the 30-year-old has also fallen out of favour, playing just 24 minutes in the Red Devils’ first four Premier League matches so far this season.
In light of this, Neville, who played for England between 2012 and 2016, admitted he saw a psychologist during his career and has advised that seeking professional help may allow Maguire to return to his best on the pitch.
“I have been there,” Neville told the BBC. “Every player has When I lost my confidence, I saw a psychologist to help me through those moments.
“But there is nothing you can do other than show up, try your best, and not give in.
“At some point, his form will return. I would suggest he do what I did. I did go and see my doctor at Manchester United. I did go see a psychologist. You do need external help at times.”
