An armed robbery attack along the Bauchi-Jos road has left several players of Borno’s El-kanemi Warriors Football Club badly injured.
This has been confirmed by the Bauchi State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakili.
Wakili disclosed that the Secretary of the El-kanemi Warriors FC, Dahiru Bala, reported that “While the team was returning from Jos in two buses and one salon car, one of their buses was attacked by the armed men.
“This attack resulted in injuries to the several occupants, as well as the theft of monies, mobile phones, and other valuables, the total of which has yet to be determined.
“This incident occurred along a route monitored by three police divisions responsible for the area: Toro, Tilden Fulani, and the Nabordo Divisions.”
The police PRO mentioned that the matter was not reported to the above divisions but instead to the GRA Police Station in Bauchi.
According to him, “The affected players received medical treatment and were subsequently discharged from the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, ATBUTH.
“The command is committed to a thorough investigation into this matter. For many years, incidents of robbery on the Bauchi-Jos highway have virtually been nonexistent, thus making it one of the safest routes.
“Although crime is infrequent in Bauchi, particularly at night, the Command is taking proactive measures.”
Wakil revealed that specific strategies have been implemented to investigate, apprehend, and prosecute those responsible for the crime.
Officers from the tactical command have been directed to intensify their efforts in making arrests related to the troubling incident.
Wakil also encouraged the El-Kanemi players who were robbed to contact the command via the emergency number “Rescue Me” app.
