Seven Super Falcons players have been nominated for the CAF Player of the Year Award in the women’s categories.

Asisat Oshoala, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Rasheedat Ajibade, Toni Payne, Christy Ucheibe, Osinachi Ohale, and Uchenna Kanu are among the Nigerians on the CAF list.

The Falcons had an incredible year, reaching the round of 16 in the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand and coming within a whisker of qualifying for the quarter-finals before being eliminated on penalties by England.
Some squad members had a spectacular season at the club level.

Ajibade has been a reliable performer for the Falcons and an important component for Atletico Madrid. Last season, the attacker scored nine goals in 28 games for the Spanish club.

Toni Payne has also been a reliable performer for Sevilla Women. Last season, she recorded three goals and four assists in 28 appearances for the team.

Oshoala, who was also nominated for the Ballon d’Or and ended 20th, helped Barcelona win the UEFA Champions League. She also won the La Liga, scoring 21 goals and assisting three times in 28 matches.

The former Robo FC player will compete for the prestigious Player of the Year award, which Oshoala won for a record fifth time during the last Awards Gala in July 2022 in Rabat, Morocco.

The best women’s goalkeeper, like the best men’s goalkeeper, will be rewarded for the first time to recognize the heroic efforts of the shot-stoppers.

Ten players have been nominated for the first-ever CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award, with Nnadozie one of the favourites to win the title.

Nnadozie was a huge asset to her Paris FC team, helping them qualify for the Champions League group stage.

According to the African football governing body, ten nominees each have been pencilled in for the Interclub Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, National Team of the Year, and Young Player of the Year, limited to players under the age of 21.

The finalists of the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League in Ivory Coast have each been rewarded with a place in the Champions League group stage.

The Awards Gala is to be graced by the crème de la crème of African football on December 11 in Marrakech, Morocco.
