Manchester City defender Ruben Dias has secured his future with the club by signing a two-year contract extension.
According to BBC Sports on Friday, the 28-year-old’s previous contract was set to expire in 2027, but the new deal extends his stay until 2029, with an option for another year.
Since arriving from Benfica for £65 million in 2020, the Portugal international has been a key figure for City, winning Premier League Player of the Year in his rookie season.
Dias has helped Manchester City win four Premier League titles, the Champions League, the EFL Cup, and the FA Cup during his five-year tenure.
Reacting to the contract extension, he said, “I am incredibly happy today.
“I love Manchester – it is my home now – and I love the Manchester City fans.
“When I think about the trophies we have won and how we have played our football during my time here, I couldn’t imagine playing anywhere else,” he said.
Dias, according to Hugo Viana, the city’s football director, is “a leader in the dressing room and on the pitch”.
The club is set to focus on the futures of John Stones and Bernardo Silva in the coming months, as both have one year remaining on their contracts, while Ilkay Gundogan and Ederson have less than a year left on theirs.
Spanish midfielder Rodri, England playmaker Phil Foden, Swiss defender Manuel Akanji, and Dutch centre-back Nathan Ake all signed two-year deals.
Rico Lewis, a defender, is close to signing a new five-year contract.
