The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Friday, paid a condolence visit to the Kaduna home of the late former President, Muhammadu Buhari.
She was accompanied by wives of members of the National Assembly, and some wives of state governors.
During the visit, Mrs Tinubu was received by former First Lady, Aisha Buhari, with both women sharing an embrace.
The visit took place less than a month after Buhari’s death on July 13, 2025, in London, at the age of 82.
The retired general, who endured a prolonged illness, left behind a political legacy that spanned both military and civilian rule. Buhari first came to power through a military coup in December 1983, ruling until he was ousted in 1985.
His regime was notable for the “War Against Indiscipline” campaign, lauded for its anti-corruption stance but criticised for authoritarian methods.
After years out of office and multiple unsuccessful presidential bids, Buhari made history in 2015 by becoming the first opposition candidate to defeat an incumbent president in Nigeria. He was re-elected in 2019 and completed his tenure in 2023.
Following his passing, President Bola Tinubu declared seven days of national mourning and ordered that flags be flown at half-mast across the country. Buhari’s remains were flown back from London and interred in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, in accordance with Islamic rites.
