Paul Adefarasin, the senior pastor and founder of House on the Rock, has addressed a viral video that showed him wielding what appeared to be a pistol.
The video began circulating on social media Friday after it was posted by an X user, who credited a Lagos-based content creator known for filming exotic cars.
The caption said Adefarasin allegedly flashed him a gun for filming his car.
In the 10-second clip, a Range Rover is seen slowing down towards the videographer.
The tinted window rolled down, prompting the content creator to salute the pastor who appeared.
But Adefarasin interjected and inaudibly chided him, flashing what appeared to be a firearm.
The man behind the camera apologises afterwards as Adefarasin drives away.
The video has since stirred reactions from social media users, many of whom have criticised the pastor for “possessing a firearm”.
However, in a statement issued Saturday evening, the pastor denied wielding a gun.
“You might be aware of a video which has been circulating on social media showing me in what some have misunderstood as brandishing a firearm,” the statement reads.
“I want to assure you of this — that, that was certainly not a firearm, and at no point did I point such at anyone.”
The pastor said he would speak briefly to the “mischief” during Sunday service.
