Adeboye urges Christians to give above 10% tithe

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has called on his members and the general public to pay above 10% tithe.

Adeboye, while preaching during a sermon on Thursday, apologised over his stances on the contentious issue of paying tithe.

Prior to this, the clergy had admonished his members to pay tithes, a 10th of all their income; failure to do so, according to him, will make them miss heaven.

    • Nigerians criticise Adeboye over ‘three categories of madness’ remark

However, in an unanticipated twist, Adeboye stated that he was ”wrong” and the teaching is not biblical.

”I need to be apologising for making a mistake for saying that if you don’t pay tithe, you can not make it to heaven,” he said.

”Sorry, that’s wrong. That’s not in the Bible. What the Bible said is ‘follow peace with all me and holiness without which no man shall see God,” he added.

”Let me tell you, listen to me. You know it is possible to be right and wrong at the same time. I’ll prove it to you. I’m a scientist so I know that for years we thought that light travels in straights lines. Is that correct?

”But letter on, we discovered it’s not just straight as a rod; light travels in waves. Going one direction but in waves,” he said.

However, he urged his listeners to give above the 10 percent tithe mentioned in the Holy Bible, saying ”giving should be violent.”

”It is wrong to limit you to 10 percent at the time when some of you should be giving 20, 30, or 40 percent. 10 percent should be for beginners. Giving should be violent,” Adeboye added.
