The Rivers State Police Command has issued a warning against the growing trend of women collecting transportation fares from men and then failing to show up for meetings, describing it as a criminal offense.
The warning comes after a viral video in which the Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, stated on Wednesday in a video on X that the practice constituted fraud and could result in legal action.
“Why will you collect money from a man without going to see him? It is an offense, a punishable offense.
“It is obtaining money under false pretense. 419,” she explained.
Iringe-Koko emphasized that such actions fall under the category of acquiring by false pretense and that offenders may be arrested and prosecuted if complaints are filed with police.
She also warned members of the public to avoid deceptive financial practices.
