Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the murder of two people in the state mistaken for armed robbers.
This was disclosed in a news release that was signed by Ahmed Wakil, the state command police public relations officer.
Following a complaint by one Ibrahim Lado, a resident of Hajiya Amina Lodge Gwallameji, the residents mistook them for armed robbers and responded forcefully, overpowering and injuring them.
Wakil, who issued the release on Thursday, said that the police received a distress call from Gwallameji regarding a group of hunters led by Commander Saidu Musa, ‘M’, a 49-year-old armed with guns and machetes.
“Therefore, one of the hunters, Nasiru Adam, ‘M’, a 27-year-old resident of Tani-Yola, sustained severe injuries. Despite being rushed to ATBUTH for medical attention, Adam was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.
“Also, three of their motorcycles were burned,” Wakil said.
Similarly, the leadership reported that one Rabiu Shehu was slain on Tuesday, June 2, in the city after a retaliatory attack by a rival group of thugs known as “Yan Tokara.”
“The attack led to the death of Rabiu Shehu, also known as Rambo, a 21-year-old resident of Muda Lawal, Bauchi.
“He was attacked and stabbed in the stomach and neck by an unknown person suspected to be a member of the rival group in the Bakin Kura area. Despite being taken to the Specialists Hospital, Bauchi, for medical examination, he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor,” the PPRO stated.
Wakil stated that a covert inquiry has been ordered to determine the circumstances behind the deaths of the two people and that the command has instructed tactical commanders, area commanders, and DPOs to conduct a thorough search of the state in order to capture these criminals.
The police PRO said, “There is a heavy deployment of officers throughout the night, and every corner of the state will be thoroughly searched to ensure the arrest of those responsible.”
