As the New Year settles in, many Nigerians are eagerly anticipating their annual leave. But what if you could turn those 30 days off into a luxurious 60-day break? Sounds too good to be true? Think again!

According to experts, with some strategic planning, employees can maximize their holiday time and enjoy an extended break without using up all their leave days.

“The key is to plan your leave around public holidays, weekends, and flexi-time,” says HR consultant Mrs. Funke Akindele. “By doing so, you can enjoy a longer break without using up all your leave days.”

    Here’s how it works:

    1. Plan around public holidays: Nigeria has several public holidays throughout the year, including New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Workers’ Day, and Independence Day, among others. By taking your leave around these holidays, you can enjoy an extended break.

    2. Use weekends wisely: Weekends are the perfect opportunity to extend your break. By taking your leave on a Friday or Monday, you can enjoy a longer weekend.

    3. Take advantage of flexi-time: If your company offers flexi-time, use it to your advantage. Take a late start or early finish to extend your break.

    4. Consider taking leave during off-peak seasons: Taking leave during off-peak seasons can help you avoid peak travel prices and make the most of your break.

By following these simple tips, you can turn your 30 days of annual leave into a whopping 60 days off.

Let’s look at an example of how this works:

    – Take 15 days of annual leave from January 2nd to January 18th.

    – Enjoy the public holiday on January 1st (New Year’s Day).

    – Take the weekends of January 6th-7th, January 13th-14th, and January 20th-21st off.

    – Take an additional 10 days of annual leave from January 22nd to February 1st.

    – Enjoy the weekend of January 27th-28th off.

    – Take the remaining 5 days of annual leave from February 5th to February 9th.

By following this plan, you can enjoy a total of 60 days off, including public holidays and weekends, while only using 30 days of annual leave.

    – Before planning your leave, always check with your employer to ensure approval.

    – Make sure to plan your leave well in advance to avoid any conflicts with work commitments.

    – Consider taking your leave during the off-season to avoid peak travel prices.

By following these simple tips and tricks, you can turn your 30 days of annual leave into a luxurious 60-day break. So why not give it a try? Your holiday-loving self will thank you!
