It was a weird Monday morning at Ondo state as some men of the Nigerian Police Force protest angrily over non-payment of their last Saturday Governorship allowance.

The policemen took to Fagunwa Street, Ondo town, chanting various war songs and causing gridlock in the area. This development delayed workers from getting to their offices early and affected other commercial activities in the area.

Chronicle gathered that the action of the policemen was mainly to reject the way they were treated after Saturday’s election.

A Corp member, Sulaiman Abiola, noted how surprise he was for the policemen to be treated that way. He made it the known that the success of the election could be attributed to the effort of the Nigerian Police Force.

“I was part of the Corp member that worked at a polling unit in Owo, Ondo state. I was surprised to hear that these people have not being paid. They tighten the security at every polling unit and that was why we had a free and fair election last Saturday.” He said

Sulaiman added that “As for Corp members, we were told that our money will be transferred to our bank accounts.”

A residence of Akure, who spoke to our correspondent based on anonymity stated that it is too early to stage any protest. The election was held last Saturday, they might all receive their money before the end of the day.

“Considering the poor state of the economy, their agitation is understandable. However, I think it is too early to stage any protest. This election was held last weekend and today is Monday, they might all receive their bank alert before the end of the day.” He stated

All efforts to speak with the protesting policemen proved abortive as they were harassing any journalist that make attempt to talk to them or take their pictures.
