Nigerians have taken to social media to vent their anger and disgust at the Federal Government’s decision to allow personnel of the Federal Road Safety Commission to carry arms.

Puzzled by the government’s decision, citizens expressed their displeasure at the development, stressing that, there are was no need to hand guns to traffic controllers.

They also quizzed the government for failing to attend to more important things, stressing that, President Buhari led government is more interested in killing its citizens.

Even a parody account for the former Head of State of Nigeria, General Ibrahim Babangida did not support the move by the federal government.

The agency is a Nigerian government agency with statutory responsibilities for road safety administration in Nigeria.

It was founded in 1988 and it operates in all Nigerian states as well as the Federal Capital Territory.

No one knows FRSC better than I do because it was one of the enforcement agencies I established. I am not in support of them carrying arms.

    — Ibrahim B. Babangida (@General_Ibbro) December 5, 2016

    Here are other tweets:

So WILL FRSC fight armed robbers too or the guns are mainly for motorists? What a waste of resources. @MBuhari

    — Mufc Believer ? (@MR_LAMIDE) December 5, 2016

We don't have our basic needs sorted, 70% of the ever growing population is poor, our stats aren't improving but arming FRSC is the issue. ?

    — AdeFunke? (@phoonke) December 5, 2016

Things FRSC actually need to do their job:
    Alcohol breathalysers
    Speed tracking devices
    City cams
    Mobile first aid clinics, etc
    NOT GUNS!

    — AdaNwaAda (@cremechic11) December 5, 2016

    They are arming the FRSC.

The Nigerian government doesn't only want it's people to suffer. It's going all out to kill them.

    — Tola. (@LordDreyy) December 5, 2016

Pls why are we arming the FRSC

Just wait till they shoot a motorist that refuses to stop

We just like doing things backwards in Nigeria

    — Cinderella Man (@Osi_Suave) December 4, 2016

Police already carry guns & do the work of FRSC, i see no reason why FRSC should start carrying guns, just change them to police then

    — Herdsman (@Atiku_B) December 5, 2016

FRSC should work with the Police, just like LASTMA has done…Buy more guns for the police to fight robbers, not FRSC

    — Sidney||Goldcitizens (@sidramatic1) December 5, 2016

The plan to arm FRSC officers is very badly thought out. We've not finished dealing with police, u want to add FRSC to accidental discharges

    — Etin-osa (@etinmagbe) December 5, 2016

In a country that is still battling proliferation of arms, you give FRSC power to carry arms. Small time VIO will join. Kuku kill us finish!

    — Omo GbajaBiamila (@OccupyNaija) December 5, 2016

    FRSC to carry guns??

If it happens don't be surprised when someone gets a bullet in the head for not putting seat belt.

    — LEGIT RUGGED (@valjoze) December 5, 2016

Rather than fix the roads, effective emergency/monitoring units, DUI and speed trackers…FG decides to hand guns to FRSC. Obey or get shot!

    — Kash (@lucanmaik) December 5, 2016

Any death that arises form this unnecessary arming of the FRSC officials is definitely going to be on the poor judgement of the 9ja govt
