The Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande says the Federal Government will provide housing accommodation across the country especially for the low income earners.

He explained that the Buhari administration will be building 300,000 new houses across the country in the Economic Sustainability Plan (ESP).

Speaking on Radio Nigeria’s weekly programme “Have Your Say“, he said Nigerians will pay about N9,000 monthly on their mortgage.

“We have started to make advances on the construction of 300,000 houses across the country via a social housing scheme where the target is to have people pay as little as 9,000 Naira monthly as mortgage fees, while the scheme would lead to direct and indirect employment of about 5 million Nigerians”. He stated

He also added that “the Federal Government has enumerated 4 million farmers out of the total expected figure of 5 million that are to benefit from the agricultural arm of the ESP. In the coming weeks the CBN would be making lending possible especially to the bigger farmers like OLAM, and these would lend products and equipment to the small holder farmers. The target of 20k – 100k new hectares per state is achievable.”

The SSA commented that the Survival fund is another arm of the ESP that is designed to cater to MSMEs which has kicked off as at Monday 26th of October. “I’m proud to say that Artisans in 13 states have begun to get the one off payments promised to 330,000 individuals, some of the pilot states include Lagos, Ondo, Kaduna, Bauchi, Abia, Anambra and Delta. Etc. There is going to be a second batch as well as a third.”

“A lot of Nigerians are not on the National Grid and they are the ones we are targeting with the installation of Solar Panels in 5million homes in our rural areas, a figure that is expected to impact 25 million individuals, and this does not include the 250,000 persons that would be involved in the installation as well as maintenance of the solar panels.” He concluded.

As regards comments from individuals commending the different programmes, Mr. Laolu Akande stated that just as with the SIPs, the people need not be worried about using connections to access these various schemes as the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo is determined to continue with the process of equal opportunities to all qualified citizens.
