Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has ordered a massive rearrangement of the state executive council as part of his administration’s realistic political realignment.
Yusuf announced in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, on Thursday that the first significant reshuffle of his cabinet will take place immediately.
According to the statement, Yusuf emphasised that the long-awaited decision had finally been made to allow for optimal performance, which will result in more democratic dividends for the good people of Kano State.
Those affected by the dramatic shake-up include the Chief of Staff, Shehu Sagagi, whose job has been abolished, and the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Abdullahi Bichi, who was dismissed due to health concerns.
According to Dawakin-Tofa, the governor replaced some cabinet members and transferred others to improve administrative performance and political retooling.
“Those who retained their positions are Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Isa Dederi; Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud; Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran; Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning, Abduljabbar Mohammed Umar; Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Musa Shannon; and Commissioner for Works and Housing, Engr. Marwan Ahmad.
Also retained are the Commissioner for Solid and Mineral Resources, Sefiyanu Hamza; the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Shiekh Ahmad Tijani Auwal; the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso; the Commissioner for Investment and Commerce, Adamu Aliyu Kibiya; and the Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services, Major General Mohammad Inuwa Idris Rtd.”
It added that those reassigned are the ”Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulssalam, who was moved from the Ministry of Local Government to Higher Education; Hon. Mohammad Tajo Usman, who moved from Science and Technology to the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; and Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata, who moved from Higher Education to Science, Technology, and Innovation.”
Also reassigned are ”Amina Abdullahi from Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation to the Ministry for Women, Children, and Disabled, and Nasiru Sule Garo from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to the Ministry of Special Duties.”
The Commissioner for Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Ibrahim Namadi, moved to the Ministry of Transport, while Umar Haruna Doguwa of the Ministry of Education was moved to the Ministry of Water Resources.
On the reassigned list also is Ali Haruna Makoda, who was moved from Water Resources to the Ministry of Education; Aisha Lawal Saji from the Ministry of Women, Children, and Disability to Tourism and Culture; and Muhammad Diggol from Transport to the Ministry of Project Monitoring and Evaluation.
”Meanwhile, Yusuf has dropped five members of his cabinet, including Ibrahim Jibril Fagge of the Finance Ministry, Ladidi Ibrahim Garko, Culture and Tourism; Baba Halilu Dantiye, Information and Internal Affairs; Shehu Aliyu Yammedi, Special Duties; and Abbas Sani Abbas, Rural and Community Development.
”Also, the governor has directed the chief of staff and the five commissioners who have been dropped to report to the office of the governor for possible reassignment.”
