Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, has pledged to remain in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, despite the party’s internal problems.
He made the commitment during a media event on Wednesday to commemorate his first anniversary as a minister.
Wike firmly stated, “I don’t run away from any fight. I will stay and fight it out. Who am I going to run from? The vampires? I cannot do that!”
Wike’s statements came amid speculation that he may leave the PDP owing to internal disagreements, notably those directed at him.
However, he has often stated his devotion to his ideals, even if it means standing alone. When asked if he planned to leave the PDP, Wike said, “Anyone who knows me understands that if I wanted to join the APC, I would do so openly.
“I’ve never hidden my stance, and I won’t start now. Integrity is very important.”
The former Rivers State governor emphasised his commitment to principles, asserting that the PDP won in Rivers State because he stood his ground.
“People must know you for something,” he concluded, dismissing his critics as being afraid of his influence.
This comes less than 24 hours after Chief Edwin Clark, a former Federal Commissioner for Information, urged PDP National Chairman Iliya Damagun to remove Wike from the party.
In an open letter, Clark accused Wike of exploiting his relationship with President Bola Tinubu to threaten Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the PDP.
