The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has threatened to embark on demolition of houses and structures that negate the Abuja master plan.
Wike made the remarks in his inaugural address at the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) office on Monday.
He was among the 45 ministers whom President Bola Tinubu swore into office at the presidential villa in Abuja.
Alongside Mariya Mahmud, Minister of FCT (state), Wike, who was among the 45 ministers whom President Bola Tinubu swore into office at the presidential villa in Abuja on Monday, vowed to work in adherence to the Abuja Master Plan.
According to Wike, all those people who are distorting the Abuja Master Plan, it is too bad. If you know you’ve built where you’re not supposed to build, it will go down. Be it a minister from anywhere, be it an ambassador. If you know you’ve developed where you’re not supposed to develop, your house must go down.
“Those who have taken over the green areas to build Our packs must come back. The green areas must come back.
“If you hate green, you must hate yourself.
“So if you know you’ve got anybody who is involved that has taken over the packs to where they now do restaurants, no, we’ll not accept that. Sorry! If your father has done that, sorry! If your mother has done that, sorry! There is nothing I can do. It will go down”.
Wike also vowed to eradicate the illegal disposal of waste in Abuja.
Complaining about the prevalence of refuse in Abuja, he said, “Look at refuse everywhere. Those people we’re paying, what are they doing? We must also sit down and look at different ways of managing or disposing of waste. It’s very key”.
The former governor of Rivers State also vowed to end land racketeering in Abuja.
He said, “All those who are doing land racketeering.” That period of land racketeering is over. Those that the government has given to C of O have allocated land to them, yet they have refused to develop it. They have become land speculators. The land is gone. I’m going to revoke them”.
