Mrs. Nguemo Ikyowe, a 17-year-old housewife, was detained by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for reportedly killing her three-year-old stepson, Vanen Ikyowe.
The culprit was nabbed in Ginde Village, Guma Local Government Area, Benue State. Mrs. Larai Bitrus, the Benue NSCDC State Commandant, confirmed the suspect’s detention, stating that he was apprehended on September 12 for culpable homicide.
Bitrus reported that following a distress call from the public on September 12, one Nguemo murdered a three-year-old boy and put his body in a river in Ginde Village, Guma Local Government Area.
“Our men stationed at Ginde Village swiftly moved to the scene and arrested the suspect, who later confessed to the crimes during interrogation.
“The suspect led their officers, who conducted a search and discovered the lifeless body of the boy and deposited it at a mortuary in Ginde Village.
“The crime is against the state, and so she will be handed over to the Nigerian Police Force for possible prosecution after their investigation,” she said.
The suspect told journalists that she is the victim’s father’s second wife.
The wife went to the bush with her stepson to gather firewood when a “spirit” overpowered her and she murdered the boy.
