The world food program (WFP) says it will spend $2.5 billion to battle hunger in Nigeria over the next five years, with over 133 million people in the country impacted by multidimensional poverty.

This was revealed by the World Food Programme’s Country Director, David Stevesson, when he led a team from the UN agency to see Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Betta Edu in her office.

According to Stevesson, 2.1 million Nigerians have already been identified as program beneficiaries; this number will grow with the assistance of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

Edu thanked the WFP Country Director for the trip and the assistance.

As part of its attempts to combat poverty and provide relief, she said that her ministry had started the “zero hunger” project.
