The United States (US) has issued a strong warning to its citizens in Nigeria, stating that there are “elevated threats” to big hotels in the country’s “major cities.”
This warning was issued on Friday, November 3, 2023 by the United States in an emergency message for American citizens dated November 3.
According to the advice, Nigerian security services are working to address the threat.
It advised US citizens to be vigilant at major hotels, be aware of their surroundings, maintain a low profile, and examine the Nigeria travel advisory before checking into any hotels.
The notice reads, “The U.S. Government is aware of credible information that there is an elevated threat to major hotels in Nigeria’s larger cities.
“The Nigerian security services are working diligently to counter the threat.
“The U.S. Department of State advises U.S. citizens to consider this information when arranging lodging or visiting major hotels in Nigeria.”
The letter also included the locations and phone numbers for the US embassy in Abuja and the consulate in Lagos, in case any US citizens needed assistance.
In October, the United States also encouraged all of its nationals globally to exercise caution when visiting various regions throughout the world. Nigeria was placed on the third level of caution (reconsider travel).
