President Bola Tinubu has denounced the assassination attempt on former United States President Donald Trump.
The attempt occurred at a political rally on Saturday, July 13, 2024, in Pennsylvania. Trump narrowly escaped, later stating, “I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear.”
The Federal Bureau of Investigation revealed that 20-year-old Thomas Crooks fired multiple shots, resulting in one fatality and two injuries.
The Secret Service reported that the shooter, positioned from an elevated spot outside the rally, was “neutralized” by agents.
In a statement released on Sunday, Tinubu condemned the attack as distasteful and contrary to democratic values.
He emphasized that violence has no place in democracy and wished Trump a speedy recovery.
“I extend my sympathies to the former President and wish him relief. I also condole with the family of the deceased and those wounded and wish them a quick recovery. Nigeria stands in solidarity with the United States of America at this time,” Tinubu added.
