Afolabi Adeola, a police inspector, was reportedly killed after being hit by a truck at a checkpoint on the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway in Ogun State.
It was gathered on Thursday that the incident happened on Sunday, about 12:30 p.m., near the Judiciary Complex checkpoint in Abeokuta.
The truck, which was claimed to be loaded with 900 bags of cement, was apparently approaching the checkpoint at high speed when the accident occurred.
Before crashing into the officer, the truck allegedly rammed into another truck that had stopped at the checkpoint in accordance with police traffic control.
The crash’s impact was alleged to have killed Inspector Adeola, who was on duty at the checkpoint.
He was brought to a Lagos hospital and died on Monday, just after receiving an X-ray.
Zagazola Makama, a security analyst, said on Twitter that officers from the traffic unit visited the area, documented the incident, and recovered both vehicles to the station for further investigation.
The accused are set to appear in court on Wednesday, July 3.
When contacted about the accident, Ogun State Police Command spokesperson CSP Omolola Odutola advised the press to “please wait for the official press release”.
At the time of filing this report, the police had yet to comment on the crash.
