The Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Cross River State dismissed on Tuesday the petition of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Sandy Onor, challenging the election of Bassey Otu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The petition was dismissed for lack of merit, according to the panel’s decision.
The PDP candidate contested the Independent National Electoral Commission‘s (INEC) proclamation of Otu as the victor of the March 18 poll in the South-South state.
According to INEC data, Otu received 258,619 votes, while Onor received 179,636.
The APC candidate won in 15 of the 18 local government areas announced by the commission in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State.
