Tinubu won’t abandon Borno, says Zulum

The governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, has reassured the state’s residents that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the next president, would keep his commitments since Tinubu is aware of their struggles and aspirations.

Even though he will regret the significant backing he received from the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret. ), he expressed relief that Tinubu and Senator Kashim Shettima were joining forces.

The All Progressives Congress’ win in the presidential vote on February 25 was, in Zulum’s opinion, the biggest relief for him and his government.

When inviting Kashim Shettima, the vice president-elect, to a Sallah lunch at the Government House in Maiduguri, the state capital, Governor Zulum addressed on Friday.

His Excellency Senator Kashim Shettima is sitting in our midst as the Vice President-elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria ready to be sworn in, and that is one of my greatest delights, he said. Since I took the oath of office as governor in 2019, it has been one of my prayers.

“On a previous occasion, President Buhari bemoaned the lack of support for efforts to solve the issues in Borno State. It’s true that I’ve had dreams about this. I have a brother and a boss alongside me who, insha’Allah, will assist me as well as the administration and people of Borno State during the next four years. We have Bola Tinubu, the new president, who loves Borno State and understands our suffering.

Zulum recently referred to Buhari as his biggest pillar over the last almost four years of his first term in his acceptance speech after winning his re-election campaign.

Zulum said that Buhari’s tenacious pursuit of Boko Haram and countless initiatives for the state’s development and welfare provided him with immeasurable support.
