President Bola Tinubu has urged FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to ignore critics and focus on his revolutionary work in the Federal Capital Territory.
Tinubu praised Wike’s leadership, underlining that the centre’s transformation represents his administration’s dedication to excellence and good governance.
On Tuesday, the president made this statement at the opening ceremony for the rebuilt International Conference Centre in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, Wike complimented President Tinubu for his initiative in issuing a matching order to rebuild the institution. The minister also stated that he got pressure over the project from people whose names he did not give.
In his speech, Tinubu said the centre’s rehabilitation is part of his administration’s efforts to “change the way we do things and reflect us as people of quality, people of character.”
In response to Wike’s remark regarding public pressure, Tinubu advised the minister to focus on his work in the FCT and avoid busybodies and bystanders.
“Don’t pay attention to the busybody and the bystanders. Whatever they say, continue with your good work. You’re a transformational leader. You have the foresight and determination to succeed.”
Earlier in his speech, Wike stated that the conference, built in 1991 by General Ibrahim Babangida’s military dictatorship, was an eyesore because no renovations had been completed since its inception.
Wike stated that any agency or ministry intending to use the centre’s halls must pay to sustain and maintain the facility.
