The President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government on Saturday pledged to provide more modern equipment and resources to the Nigeria Police Force to enable it to discharge its responsibilities more effectively.
Tinubu made the pledge at the graduation ceremony of 478 students of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu stressed the importance of shunning corruption and upholding the highest level of professionalism in the discharge of their responsibilities.
“We are also embarking on a massive recruitment drive into the police force aimed at empowering our youth to participate in national security efforts, Tinubu said.
The president advised graduates to strictly adhere to modern policing ethics while carrying out their tasks.
He was confident that the officers had acquired sufficient academic and professional training to have a good impact on the country’s security architecture.
Tinubu guaranteed that the Federal Government would continue to support the academy, describing it as one of the premier training grounds for police personnel in Sub-Saharan Africa.
He consequently charged the incoming officers to prioritise the nation’s interests, perform their constitutional responsibilities, and work with determination and commitment.
The President also urged them to remain watchful and respect the ideals of the police, emphasising excellent service delivery.
“As you graduate today, you are not just receiving a certificate but also becoming ambassadors of the Nigeria Police Service.
“I charge you to discharge your primary duties with compassion, integrity, and professionalism.
“Remember that you are the face of the police service, and your actions will reflect on the institution and the nation as a whole.”
Earlier, the Academy’s Commandant, AIG Sadiq Abubakar, stated that the 478 graduates had been equipped with necessary policing expertise to improve the country’s security condition.
“In line with the college’s high standards, 17 programs offered by the academy have been accredited by the National Universities Commission.
“I commend the Federal Government for its significant investment in these graduates, which has paved the way for today’s graduation ceremony, he said.
