President Bola Tinubu is meeting with Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.
Our correspondent witnessed the governor arriving alone at the presidential villa grounds at approximately 03:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
The governor will meet with Tinubu for the first time since defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress on Tuesday.
On April 23, 2025, Oborevwori became Delta State’s first incumbent governor to leave the PDP since 1999.
His predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa; Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme; commissioners; local government chairmen; and the grassroots machinery all joined the APC during a closed-door meeting in Asaba.
Okowa was the PDP’s vice presidential candidate for the 2023 presidential election.
Delta’s wave of defection follows similar realignments in Rivers and Cross River, reducing the PDP’s governorship map to 10 states and upsetting a region traditionally viewed as an opposition stronghold.
