President Bola Tinubu has extended his congratulations to former President Goodluck Jonathan for being honoured with the 2025 Sunhak Peace Founders’ Award.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised Jonathan for his unwavering commitment to peace and democracy, calling it a patriotic endeavour that has garnered international acclaim.
“The President remarked that Dr Jonathan’s receipt of the Sunhak Peace Award underscores his courageous contributions to peacebuilding and the advancement of democracy across Africa and beyond,” the statement read.
Tinubu also highlighted Jonathan’s historic decision to accept the outcome of the 2015 presidential election and peacefully transfer power to an opposition party—a move that significantly strengthened Nigeria’s democratic standing.
Additionally, the President expressed gratitude to the Sunhak Peace Prize Committee for acknowledging individuals dedicated to fostering global progress.
Established in 2015, the Sunhak Peace Prize is a biennial award granted to individuals and organisations that have made outstanding contributions to worldwide peace and development. The prize celebrates achievements in three core areas: sustainable human development, conflict resolution, and environmental preservation.
Goodluck has been named the recipient of the 2025 Founders’ Sunhak Peace Award, which will be presented by the Sunhak Peace Prize Foundation in Seoul, South Korea.
