President Bola Tinubu congratulated Mark Carney on the Liberal Party’s win in the recent Canadian parliamentary elections, which resulted in his election as the country’s 24th Prime Minister.
Tinubu extended his congratulations in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Tuesday.
The statement is captioned ‘President Tinubu congratulates Canadian Prime Minister Mark Joseph Carney.’
He recognised the significance of his hard-fought electoral victory at a time when the country requires a leader with extensive experience.
Carney, a seasoned economist, previously served as Governor of the Bank of Canada from 2008 to 2013 and the Bank of England from 2013 to 2020.
“The president hopes that Carney’s banking and governance experience will guide the country at this crucial moment in its history.
“President Tinubu expresses Nigeria’s commitment to deepening relations between the two nations, particularly in education, climate change, and migration,” the statement read.
The Nigerian leader stated that he looks forward to forming a dynamic and forward-thinking partnership with Prime Minister Carney’s administration, building on the goodwill and cooperation established by former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
