President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mr. Silas Agara as the new Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE).
Agara, an entrepreneur and sports administrator who previously served as the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, succeeds Nuhu Fikpo, who was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in May 2021.
The announcement was made by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, in a statement titled “President Tinubu Appoints New Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment” issued on Saturday.
President Tinubu expects an overhaul of the NDE to enhance its performance in designing and implementing programs to combat mass unemployment.
The NDE was established in November 1986 and began operations in January 1987 to address the economic recession of the 1980s, which led to a significant drop in capacity utilization and the closure of many industries in Nigeria.
The President anticipates an “overhaul of the NDE for optimal performance in designing and implementing programmes to combat mass unemployment.”
The NDE was established in November 1986 and began operations in January 1987.
It was meant to address the effects of the economic recession of the 1980s, which led to a profound drop in capacity utilisation and consequent outright closure of industries in Nigeria.
