President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku as substantive Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
This was announced in a statement on Wednesday night by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.
According to the statement titled ‘President Tinubu approves leadership changes in the Aviation and Aerospace Development Sector, the president also appointed Mr. Chris Najomo, who assumes office as the Acting Director-General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
Their appointment comes on the heels of the sacking of the heads of various aviation agencies on Wednesday.
Chronicle NG reports that the president sacked Mr. Kabir Mohammed of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN); Mr. Tayib Odunowo of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency; Akinola Olateru of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau; Prof. Mansur Matazu of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency; and Alkali Modibbo, the Rector of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology.
He also suspended the Director-General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, Captain Musa Nuhu, “to enable the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to conduct an unfettered investigation into the activities of the suspended Director-General and other senior officials in the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority,” Ngelale said.
As a result, the President appointed Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku as the substantive Managing Director of FAAN, Umar Farouk as the substantive Managing Director of NAMA, and Mr. Alex Badeh Jr., the son of the former Chief of Air Staff, as the substantive Director-General of the NSIB. Tinubu was also appointed.
Prof. Charles Anosike has been appointed as the substantive Director-General of NiMET; Mr. Joseph Imalighwe has been appointed as the Acting Rector of NCAT; and Mr. Chris Najomo has been appointed as the Acting Director-General of the NCAA.
Ngelale confirmed that all of the president’s directives are effective immediately.
