The Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire has disclosed that there are early signs of community transmission of the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) in Nigeria.
In an interview on TVC on Thursday night, the minister explained that the lockdown of Lagos, Ogun and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will help to detect cases.
He noted that the federal government of Nigeria had stepped up strategies to curb spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
“We have started to see early signs of community transmission of COVID-19 Nigeria,” he said in the interview.
“The lockdown in the Lagos, Ogun and the FCT will be helpful as we continue to intensify efforts to detect & confirm cases of COVID-19”.
Earlier today at the Presidential Task Force on coronavirus led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, the minister said, “With the expanded national case definition and addition of two new laboratories to test for COVID-19 in Ibadan and Ebonyi States, the national testing capacity is now at 1,500 a day.
“I applaud all our health workers & emergency responders in this critical time,” he said.
