Heavily armed policemen and operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) have surrounded the Kano Emir’s Palace at Kofar Kudu, restricting movement in and out of the premises.
The heightened security is linked to plans by Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II to accompany his newly appointed Wamban Kano, Munir Sanusi, to assume his post as District Head of Bichi.
Sources also report that the Bichi Emir’s Palace is under tight security, with armed officers stationed in the area.
This development comes amid lingering disputes over the Kano Emirate Council structure. Two weeks ago, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, during a visit to Bichi, affirmed the legitimacy of the Bichi Emirate Council and its Emir, Nasiru Ado Bayero.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, acting under the newly enacted Kano Emirate Council Law, recently dissolved the five emirates, including Bichi, and removed their emirs from their respective chiefdoms. ,
Days later, the state government appointed three second-class emirs, notably excluding Bichi, which has now been reduced to a district head’s jurisdiction.
The situation has sparked tension, with security deployments signaling potential challenges ahead.
