At least six people have been reportedly killed in a fresh attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen on the Adógó settlement in Mbakundu Kindred, Tombo, Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State.
The deadly assault, which occurred around 11:00 pm on Sunday, was said to have been carried out by heavily armed attackers under the cover of darkness.
A prominent member of the affected community, Haakyav Tombu Peter, in a video posted on his official Facebook page, expressed deep anguish over the incident.
He said, “The assailants came in large numbers armed with automatic weapons under cover of darkness in the night.”
He further explained the brutality of the herdsmen attack, stating, “The invaders went from house to house shooting and cutting down innocent people with matchetes.”
Witnesses revealed that the attack lasted for hours without any form of security intervention to rescue the embattled villagers.
Sources confirmed that six bodies have so far been recovered from the scene, including those of children. The victims’ remains have been deposited at the Community Health Clinic in Adógó.
The identified victims include Ansambe Akpen, Shina Ayom Akpen, Bade Jam Ata, Shiekuma Kpebee, and Sughter Avindigh Taku. The identity of the sixth victim remains unknown at the time of filing this report.
Efforts to reach the Benue State Police Command for confirmation were unsuccessful, as calls to the spokesperson’s mobile phone were not answered.
